Scale Up and -
Scale Out
Increase the size of your virtual servers in real time, or clone multiple instances in real time to deal with application load. Same goes for decreasing.
Standards Based
Developer API
Forget the user interface, develop straight to the Ninefold API, or use an industry based tool such as Knife. The Ninefold API is based on the open source Apache Cloudstack API.
High Availability
Through Multiple Zones
Create your virtual server across multiple availability zones with global load balancing, increasing resilience & reducing risk of downtime.
Virtual Machine Hypervisors
The Ninefold cloud currently supports the Citrix XenServer hypervisor, which is mature, secure, dependable and fast. A hypervisor is software that allows multiple operating systems to run simultaneously (virtualised) on a single hardware host. Each operating system assumes it has the host’s processor, memory and other resources all to itself. However, the hypervisor is actually controlling the host’s resources, allocating what is needed to each operating system and managing the virtual machines independently.
There are many benefits of server virtualisation; five big ones are:
- Faster, simpler and more powerful backup and disaster recovery solutions
- High availability with improved SLAs
- Improved uptime – virtual servers can be moved from one physical server to another with the click of a mouse
- Virtual servers are easily cloned and duplicated for rapid deployment
- More efficient utilisation of server resources (and increased energy efficiency)
There are many popular hypervisors in use today, the most popular being VMware ESX, Citrix XenServer, Hyper-V and Xen.
The choice of hypervisor may become more important if you are looking to import virtual servers (or virtual appliances) to run on Ninefold from somewhere else. If you are already using XenServer, you’ll find it a simple process to migrate your virtual servers to Ninefold. If you are currently using one of the other hypervisors, there are simple tools available to migrate from one platform to another.
